music monday// these days

There’s this thing about Mondays that just undo many folks. And that’s exactly why I decided to create ‘music Mondays.’ To help us get through Mondays. Cos, yeah, I get it. it means the start of another week on the grind and possible stress. There’re so many things that we wish we could wish away. But oh welp, the best we can do is pray through it all and choose to be joyful on the journey, on the way to where Daddy is taking us.

 these days~ mandisa
I never liked Mondays or bad news
Or breaking in new shoes
And mornings when I can’t find my phone
Nobody like traffic or short nights
Or sit ups or long flights
But sometimes that’s just the way it goes
It’s funny what You use to help me grow

So I’ll learn to love these days
Life along the way
In the middle of the crazy
God your love is so amazing
Through the ups and downs
You’re the only hope I’ve found
Lord, you meet me in the madness

I’ll learn to love these days
I’ll learn to love these days

I can see silver lining
When the sun’s not shining
Even when You choose to bring the rain
Oh, but there’s freedom believing
And trusting Your leading
Cause You’re Lord of all my joy and all my pain

I could wait the hundred years
You gave me here, the days when you were near
The days when I was out there
Looking for what comes next
Oh, cause every minute, every hour, everyday
Is such a gift and I can say
I’m thankful for each day

So I’ll learn to love these days
Life along the way
In the middle of the crazy
God, Your love is so amazing
Through the ups and downs
You’re the only hope I’ve found
Lord, you meet me in the madness

So I’ll learn to love these days
I’ll learn to love these days
I’ll learn to love these days
I’ll learn to love these days

“those whom I love I rebuke and discipline…” revelations 3:19

“endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as His children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?...no discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.” Hebrews 12:7, 11-12

“He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver…” malachi 3:3

The Lord will sometimes allow us to experience certain situations which we wouldn’t find so lovely. But in His love, He knows what’s best for us and uses so many situations to help us grow in Him and exercise our faith.

I doubt anyone loves taking exams. Well, I sure don’t. but it’s necessary we study and prepare well for them in order to move to a higher stage of life. I believe it’s similar with life in general. We need to go through some things to refine us, to take away things in our hearts that are not of Him, to make us better and more like Him.

The way He speaks

A number of months ago when I was still in school, something happened that encouraged me and made me smile. It was nothing dramatic or ‘huge,’ but even in its subtle form, it was and still is a big deal to me. It was an early morning on a Sunday and I was heading to church. I was taking a long sidewalk from my school that leads to a bus stop outside the campus. I can’t really place my finger on all the thoughts I had going on but I’m pretty sure cluttered thoughts about the present and my future and how things will play out were on my mind as they often are.

As I was walking with my jumbled thoughts, and likely anticipating the message which God was going to whisper to my heart in church, the chorus of a song came to me. It was an old song I hadn’t heard in a long while. You know when something happens and you go like ‘that must be God’? That’s exactly what I told myself. The chorus of the song goes like this :
I'm already there
Take a look around
I'm the sunshine in your hair
I'm the shadow on the ground
I'm the whisper in the wind
I'm your imaginary friend
And I know I'm in your prayers
Oh I'm already there

I'm already there
Don't make a sound
I'm the beat in your heart
I'm the moonlight shining down
I'm the whisper in the wind
And I'll be there until the end
Can you feel the love that we share
Oh I'm already there.

I have no idea where the song came to me from. Like I said, I hadn’t heard it in a long, long while and from nowhere, without making any effort to remember it whatsoever, the song filled my head. I was quite surprised and yet convinced at the same time that God was trying to talk to me using these lyrics although the context of the whole song isn’t necessarily from the viewpoint of God.

I believe God speaks to us all the time. Through the Word, a friend, a movie, a song, a dream and even a complete stranger (this happened to me years ago and yeah, you guessed right. I was totally a lil freaked out. lol) Isn’t God so creative to speak to His children in such different ways?!

There are other times He speaks to us using repetition. Like, you come across something related to a particular thing so many times you know it just can’t be coincidence. For instance, I usually take part in an online Bible study on twitter and a couple of months back, the book of study was Daniel. When I was in church that week, scriptures from Daniel were part of the main reference scriptures read (no, we don’t read Daniel every time in church), and around that time too, I heard on the radio something about the book of Daniel. If you ask me, this couldn’t have been coincidental. They occurred around the same period that I began to ask myself: what is God trying to tell me specifically in this season of my life from the book of Daniel? I thought through it and came to the wonderful understanding that I might be going through tough stuff which may look overwhelming to overcome, but with God by my side, just like He was in the midst of the fire with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and they stayed alive, just as He protected Daniel from harm by sending an angel to shut the mouths of the lions in the den, that is the same way He is going to protect me. I may go through a fiery furnace or face lions, but I will NOT be harmed. I may experience very uncomfortable situations, but that’s not going to bring me down.

I’m oh, so thankful to God that He thinks about me and cares enough to assure me that whatever brand of crazy going on in my life, He’s right there with me. He really is. And that gladdens this sometimes fretting heart of mine. I need to be attentive and listen to Him all the time so I don’t miss anything. And though I haven’t yet experienced hearing Him literally speak to me like in the Moses and the burning bush scenario, (how I can’t wait for this to happen) I appreciate all the other ways God chooses to speak to me, His beloved. :) Whenever I feel very strongly about a scripture or convicted about something, I know that’s God right there, tugging at my heart.

I don’t know which ways God speaks to you specifically aside the Bible, but I pray that He opens your heart to figure it out and be guided by His loving instructions through every season in your life. And I hope that when someone prophesies to you, you take the time to pray about it yourself to verify if what the person said was actually from God before taking it in, hook, line and sinker. :) (You need to be careful with these things.)

No matter what you’re going through, trust me, I know what pain is. What I go through may not be exactly what you’re going through but dear one, know that God is there with you in the midst of it all. Is it present struggles, uncertainties about the future that leaves you panicking and close to tears? You’ll be just fine. Keep your head up, and listen to His still, small voice. And just like He was speaking to me through that song, know that no matter what you’re facing, He is already there with you. He’s always going to be with us and we shall overcome.

Be encouraged. xoxo

My missionary life in South Africa!

Hello folks! So like I said, I'm going to feed your eyes with more of pictures of my missionary life from the SA missions trip! ;) This trip seriously made me grow spiritually. For the first time ever in my life, I did a 24 hr fast! And the amazing thing? I survived! My fast metabolic system totally survived! Hahah It wasn't easy at all, but it sure was worth it.

A couple of awkward/funny things happened to me too! LOL There was this time I was dancing a choreography with other missionaries in our host church, Potter's House when my left flats suddenly flew from my feet! Can you imagine?! :)) I felt so embarrassed but smiled my way through the rest of the dance. It was embarrassment and humor all mixed together. (Yeah, go on and laugh all you want.lol) From then onwards, I never ministered in dance with those pair of  flats again. I danced with socks on (I was always in socks anyway cos of the cold) or with my shoes that had laces. I didn't and don't want my shoe flying from my feet ever again!

Oh well, let the pictures begin! :)

This is one of the schools we ministered at.

One of the missionaries ministering to Goede Hoop learners based on 2 Timothy 2:22

Oosrand High, another school we consistently evangelized at.

Me with some Oosrand High learners.

That's me in the white cap trying to teach the students of Mvelaphanda Primary in Tembisa a song during one of their Monday morning assemblies.

A couple of us evangelizing to some learners by the lake in Boksburg.

Me with Semgele, a sweet lil girl at a program we held at Mvelaphanda school one Saturday. She had to go home cos her mom was calling for her but didn't want to leave. I had to sweet talk her and take pictures to appease her before she decided to go home to mummy! Oh, kids! :)

One of the kids at the program. Aint he cute?!

Petrunia and I after the program. She's a member of the Love fellowship we established at Tembisa!

We were celebrating the birthday of one of the missionaries. *Ice cream and cake*

Aunty Phoebe and I. She's one of the sweet women in our host church, Potter's House, Boksburg. :)

Meet Kayla! One of the pretty kids in our host church.

Before church service on my second Sunday in SA.

I had to help teach Sunday school that Sunday, and I had fun with the kids. This is some of them acting out Daniel in the lions' den. Heheh

Me and Crystal after church that Sunday. I can't remember why we were so happy. LOL

That's the team of missionaries after church. Make me out by my brown shoes. Hahah

Passing through one of the stores around our block. (Anything funny you see around the left corner of my lips is the fever blister that came along with the fever I had. Not cool, I know.) /blush

Some snaps from the window of our moving van. Oh, and btw, public transport in SA is called "combi."

Dear friends, I hope you enjoyed this set of SA pictures. I'll update you on more later!

You're precious to God.:) xoxo

Go forth!: My South Africa missions trip

Sawubona!!! I’m excited to be back to my good ole blog. I know, I’ve been a lil MIA. Well, it was for a very good reason. Remember I was talking about going for missions during summer time in some of my blogs? Yeah, I went for a three-week missions trip in South Africa! :-) I returned a week ago, and like usual, I had to take some time off to rest before getting all busy with blogging. Lol Oh, and ‘sawubona’ is an isiZulu word in SA which means ‘greetings’! (Putting my SA vocab to good use, eh? ;) Anyway, I have a lot to update you guys on and it’s going to be mostly pictures in the subsequent blogs. Cool? Good.

Yurp, I got the window seat. ;)

To be part of the trip is such a blessing and an answer to a prayer I said to God. He is such a faithful God! My going on the trip is a testimony in itself. I’m so thankful to all the people who supported me. I pray for God’s blessings over your lives. So much happened and my experience throughout the trip is one I’ll always remember. :)
My dinner on the plane. Main dish was noodles with chicken. Yum, yum!

The chocolate pudding was delish!

The sun rising in Jo'burg.

The view of Jo'burg from my window before landing.

Finally at OR Tambo Int airport after the 6 hr flight.

The Potter’s House church in Boksburg hosted us. (God forever bless them & oh, btw they have no connection with T.D Jakes church.) We ministered in schools, in the streets, we held camps, we had a number of Jesus marches throughout some communities and did a number of awesome things.
The Potter's House, Boksburg

The street infront of the  Potter's House- Commissioner street

South Africa is such a beauty! The streets are artistically designed, the buildings are beautiful, the food is quite healthy and in abundance, there are quite a number of parks around and some amazing lakes. We went to Swaziland to minister there during the second weekend of my stay in SA and it was such a lovely time. I met some amazing people in Boksburg, Johannesburg and in Big Bend, Swaziland. I soaked in all of the things and scenes, never wanting to miss anything. Haha

One of the malls

Posing while the others waited at the counter ordering our meal.lol
One thing though, SA was extremely cold cos it was their winter time. The temperature could drop especially at night to as low as the negatives. It was that cold! I could layer up with four tops, two cardigans and a jacket, but the bitter cold still got to me. Wheew! The sun would come up during the day alright, but the wind blowing is terribly cold that you don’t feel any warmth from the sun. So the sun was more of a light giving element than a warmth giving one. There were times when I saw vapour pouring out of my mouth when I spoke. I began to think how bad it could get if it had snowed. I really missed the warmth back in Ghana. Smh

We visited Care Bible Church and I met Serena there.
The change in weather even made me ill. It made most of us ill to be honest. I suffered a fever for a number of days. I had chills, headaches, tummy aches, I was nauseous, I threw up a couple of times, I lost appetite. :( But by His stripes, I was healed in time for the Swaziland missions. Isn’t God awesome?!

The beautiful man-made lake which was near where we lived in Boksburg.

On the contrary however, Swaziland was way better. We stayed with a host family there in Big Bend for a weekend. It only got cold in the early mornings and evenings there. Day time was as warm as Ghana.

By the lake
South Africa honestly taught me never to take the sunshine back home for granted but to be very grateful for it. To feel a little warmth in SA was great joy for me. I knew SA was going to be cold but I guess I underestimated how cold it could actually get.

Apartments overlooking the lake.
There were a number of things I observed which were a bit of a culture shock like the fact that they still drive on the right. That took a little getting used to, considering that we drive on the left in Ghana. The oranges there are actually orange on the outside, unlike the green-looking yet sweet ones in Ghana. And their oranges are seedless! Like, you find no seed in them. That was surprising to me.

Also, one of their common dishes is rice with soup! Lol I’m used to eating rice with stew/sauce so that one too took a lil getting used to. Meat/chicken is always in plenty though. Truth is, they love meat! Haha

One of the cute houses on the way to Reigerpark.

Yeah, that's a glass gate on the far right of this house.

In terms of morality and spirituality, there’s so much work to be done. Most of the youth smoke and drink...it’s so sad. Some mothers even smoke and give the cigarette to their babies to smoke too! I still can’t process this bit. Too horrible! The gay guys aren’t embarrassed in the least about their sexuality. They’re so open about it and even dress like females. Smh

Advertisement for abortion is found everywhere on their streets! I was so shocked when I saw them... I just pray the Godly seeds we’ve gone to sow in the land will grow by God’s grace and the people held captive by the devil will be set free in Christ forever. A teenager getting pregnant and giving birth is no big deal there. It’s more like the norm. Hmm, it’s so sad.

Cool building huh
There was an incidence that really surprised me. During the last Jesus march we had, a guy and a girl were busy smoking through some pipe thingy right before our eyes. They looked on at us with our Jesus placards, music and all but they couldn’t be bothered. Some of us went to talk to them, they seemed to listen but they continued smoking anyway. I stared at them for the longest time, wondering how they got to this point in their lives where the life giving message of Jesus meant nothing to them. My heart broke and still breaks for them. All I can do is keep praying for the lost in SA. Please do too.

So basically, this is the sum of my experience on missions field in SA. I’ll blog more about it using more of pictures. :-)

Jesus loves you, yes you! Keep believing. xoxo
